2025: A Year in Retrospect

This was a busy year! Major developments in PartsBox that happened over the course of 2025:

  • Label Printing: print labels directly from PartsBox on Zebra printers using ZPL. Customizable templates are available for parts, lots, storage locations, builds, and orders, with label preview and downloadable PNG option.
  • KiCad Integration: use PartsBox as a parts library directly from KiCad via HTTP Library support. Your parts data, stock levels, and custom fields are available right in the schematic editor.
  • Altium Designer Integration: PartsBox Outpost connects Altium Designer to your PartsBox parts database, bringing inventory data into your PCB design workflow.
  • CAD Keys: a dedicated field for reliable BOM-to-part matching using CAD-specific identifiers, ensuring parts are correctly matched when importing BOMs from your CAD tool.
  • Custom Fields Everywhere: extended custom fields beyond parts to projects, lots, storage locations, orders, and BOM entries. Custom fields now appear as configurable table columns.
  • BOM Improvements: reworked BOM import and editing. Merge and expand BOM entries. Match ID Anything codes in imported BOMs. Optional column showing all substitutes.
  • Part Archiving: archived parts are not visible in normal usage, but remain available if needed.
  • Bulk Operations: move and adjust counts for multiple lots at once. Add/remove tags for multiple lots. Expand multiple BOM entries simultaneously.
  • Table Configuration Presets: table configuration presets with quick selectors allow sharing configurations company-wide. Also: new "has exactly these tags" filter, and storage locations are now sortable and searchable.
  • Purchase Lists: filter local sources in purchase lists and project pricing. Price breaks now consider in-stock quantity.
  • Build Tracking: build stage comments as configurable columns, making it easy to track build progress notes.
  • GBP and JPY Subscription Pricing: PartsBox subscriptions can now be paid in British Pounds (GBP) and Japanese Yen (JPY) in addition to USD, EUR and PLN.

In 2025 we also expanded features available in the free Hobbyist/Maker plan: ID Anything is now available in all plans, custom fields are available in the free plan, and custom BOM import formats are now free.

There were also many API improvements, and lots of usability improvements and performance fixes, way too many to list individually!

PartsBox is an online app that lets you take control of your electronic parts inventory, BOM pricing, and small-scale production. It keeps track of where components are stored, what the current stock levels are, and which components are used in which projects/BOMs.
