A tag is a label you attach to a record to group it your way. Mark a set of parts rohs, a batch of orders q3-2026, a few locations cleanroom, then find them all again by that tag, whatever else they have in common.

You can tag any kind of record: parts, projects, orders, storage locations, lots, and builds. Tags are free-form — create one by typing it — and finding by tag is immediate: type #cleanroom in a search box to show only the records that carry it, and combine several tags to narrow further.

Linked parts also get automatic tags from their technical data. PartsBox reads a part's specifications and tags it with what it is: resistor or capacitor, its package such as 0805 or DPAK, whether it is SMD or THT, its dielectric such as X5R, a transistor's NPN or N-Channel. These update on their own as the specifications change, and they stay separate from the tags you add, so your labels and the automatic ones never collide.

Tags become columns you can show and filter like any other, with operators for contains all of, contains any of, and has exactly these and no other. Apply a tag to many records at once with bulk operations.

Tags also do real work in production. Tag lots customer-a or quarantine, and builds and purchase lists can be restricted to the stock a job is allowed to use — which is how consigned inventory stays with its client and suspect stock stays out of a run.

Tags are in every plan, including the free Maker plan.
