Electronic Component Database

When designing electronic devices, we use components that we already know or that we can find by searching manufacturer websites or distributor websites. But there is no good way to *discover* useful electronic components that are used by others. Often the only way to find out about an electronic part is from another engineer.

The Electronic Component Database is an attempt to help with discovering new parts. It contains rankings of most popular electronic components, and for each component, a short web page with essential data. The database also contains lists of substitutes for many components.

The data presented here is not theoretical. It is based on real-world usage over many years, by hundreds of companies and thousands of users.

The popularity ranking was split into two: one ranking is for commercial (business) usage, and another for hobby usage, because parts used by hobbyists/makers are often different from those used in electronics production. The rankings do not include resistors and capacitors.

This resource is not an electronic component search engine. It will not help you finding distributors that have a specific component in stock. It is a discovery tool that lets you explore electronic parts and find out what other engineers use in their designs.
